医学翻译在出国看病服务中有多重要

出国看病过程中，医学翻译对患者病历的处理是十分关键的一环，今天我们就通过以下例子进行说明：

三个小词辨析：probable, possible, likely，让大家体会医学翻译的自我修养

医学教育家奥斯勒(Osler W. Aequanimitas)表示 “Medical education is, to a large extent, education for uncertainty”。在临床医学诊断和药品临床试验中，都会出现对于 “确定性/不确定性” 的描述。

例如在临床超声检查报告中，最后的 “超声印象/提示/结论” 中会给出 “胎儿唇裂可能”、“考虑脂肪瘤可能”、“肝内囊肿可能” 等描述。

在药物临床试验的不良事件报告中，需要判断 AE 与研究药物和程序的关系，比如 “可能有关”、“很可能有关” 及 “肯定有关” 等等。

在英语中，表示 “可能” 的常见形容词有 probable、 possible 和 likely。这三个词语在意思上有些差别。

简单来说，probable 和 likely 的意思非常接近，都表示一件事情 “八九不离十” 了。两者的最大区别在于，likely 在口语及日常用得比较多，而 probable 相对更书面语一些。possible 只表示某件事情存在概率，但这个概率有多大，无法确定。

在临床试验的因果关系评价(causality assessment)中，WHO-UMC 给出了描述因果关系的术语

另外，在表示 “肯定” 时，WHO 用了certain。当然在临床医学中，我们还可以用 definite。

“可能” 不是一个精确的术语，在注重精确的学科中，都会对其进行规定，除了医药领域，金融财经领域也是如此。

在普华永道(PwC)的一份文件中，也对 “确定性“ 的程度使用了不同词语，如下文。

“The Korea Accounting Standards Board and the Australian Accounting Standards Board have conducted research into the different terms of ‘likelihood’ in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). We looked into their research and considered whether it is extremely unlikely, unlikely, possible, expected, likely, probable, reasonably certain, highly probable or virtually certain that the different terms of likelihood are creating issues for financial reporters.”

从这里我们可以看出，likely 和 probable 虽然意思非常接近，但 probable 还是比 likely 的确定性更大一些。可见，同一语境中不同词汇可以表达不同意思，严谨得医疗服务中更是如此。
